Karnal: Prof. Suresh Malhotra, Vice-Chancellor of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University (MHU), Karnal, met with the Honorable Governor, Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh, at Lok Bhawan, Chandigarh, on Thursday. During the meeting, the MHU Vice-Chancellor presented the Governor with a special bouquet crafted from dried flowers by students and scientists from the university's Floriculture Department. Additionally, he presented a fruit basket containing innovative products developed in-house by MHU, such as creamy honey, *phalsa* juice, mango candy, *aam panna* jam, *kamalam* (dragon fruit) products, and items made from mango and guava.
These products showcased the work being undertaken by the university in the fields of horticulture education, research, value addition, and processing. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Suresh briefed the Governor in detail about MHU's achievements. He stated that MHU is steadily progressing towards its set goals, with scientists and officials working in close coordination. Consequently, the university is gaining recognition for its achievements not only within the state but across the country.
During the conversation, the Governor inquired about the status and expected completion date of the university's main campus construction. The Vice-Chancellor informed him that the construction work has reached the final stage and is expected to be completed by the end of this year. He also apprised the Governor of plans for the university's first convocation ceremony. His Excellency consented to participate in and host the event, indicating that the convocation is likely to be held in the first week of October 2026.
This meeting was highly significant in terms of the university's development, academic excellence, and charting a new course for horticultural education and research. Highly appreciating the work being carried out under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Suresh, His Excellency remarked that the Vice-Chancellor is dedicated to fulfilling the very objective for which MHU was established, and positive results are already visible on the ground. Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) have been signed with horticulture universities in Japan, Australia, and the United States.
He further stated that the government is continuously working for the upliftment of farmers and is implementing various schemes, the benefits of which are reaching the farmers directly.
