Hansi:— With the objective of making the solid waste management system in the district more effective and organized, a meeting was convened at the local Public Works Department (PWD) Rest House under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahul Narwal. The meeting was attended by officials from various concerned departments—including ADC and DMC Lakshit Sareen, Chief Minister's Good Governance Associate Pratiksha Sangwan, EO Rajendra Soni, and Assistant Secretary Vijender—as well as numerous hotel and dhaba operators from the city.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding the proper management of solid waste within the district, its appropriate disposal, and the strengthening of overall sanitation systems.
Deputy Commissioner Rahul Narwal also sought suggestions from the hotel and dhaba operators and issued necessary directives to ensure their compliance with sanitation regulations.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the participation of every section of society is essential for maintaining a clean and healthy environment. Appealing to hotel, restaurant, and dhaba operators, he urged them to segregate wet and dry waste during collection so that it could be disposed of in a scientific manner. He explicitly stated that burning waste contributes to environmental pollution; therefore, individuals must refrain from burning any type of waste in the open and must avoid littering on roads, streets, or public places.
DC Rahul Narwal directed the concerned officials to develop a solid waste disposal mechanism that facilitates the production of compost, thereby enhancing the fertility of the soil. He stated that efforts should be directed toward utilizing waste as a valuable resource, ensuring that the agricultural sector benefits alongside environmental conservation.
The meeting also featured a special discussion regarding the proper management of waste generated during wedding ceremonies, social gatherings, and other large-scale events. The Deputy Commissioner issued directives to ensure the timely and systematic disposal of waste generated from such events, thereby preventing any adverse impact on the sanitation infrastructure of the city and villages. During this session, DMC Lakshit Sareen provided updates regarding the management of medical waste generated by hospitals, stating that efforts are underway to integrate the collection and disposal of medical waste into the existing door-to-door collection process. He emphasized that the implementation of this system would ensure the safe and proper disposal of medical waste, thereby mitigating the risks of infection and environmental pollution.
Furthermore, during the meeting, officials reviewed various schemes and arrangements related to solid waste management, and strong emphasis was placed on the need for all concerned stakeholders to work in close coordination with one another.
