Hoshiarpur:- In a pioneering initiative towards empowerment of Divyangjan, an assistive device distribution camp was organized by Red Cross Society at Digital Library, Hoshiarpur. The camp was presided over by Deputy Commissioner-cum-President Red Cross Society Ashika Jain.
The program was organized under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program of Grid Controller of India, while technical support was provided by ALIMCO. 155 assistive devices worth around Rs 32 lakh were distributed to 109 Divyang beneficiaries in the camp, including 37 motorized tricycles, 22 ordinary tricycles, 30 wheelchairs, 4 CP chairs, 2 smartphones, 1 Sugamiya cane, 34 crutches, 20 walking sticks, 1 rollator and 4 prosthetic limbs along with many other useful devices. Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that Divyangjan are an integral and valuable part of the society and they not only deserve sympathy but also equal opportunities and respect. Such efforts made with the collective participation of the government, administration, social institutions and industry give a new direction to the Divyangjan people by making them self-reliant and moving forward in the mainstream of the society. He said that the district administration aims to ensure that no physical disability of any person should become a hindrance in their path of success.
He specially thanked the Grid Controller of India and the Red Cross team including ALIMCO for this humanitarian initiative and said that the administration is constantly committed to providing the benefits of public welfare schemes to the deserving persons on the basis of transparency and priority.
Assistant Commissioner Oishi Mandal said that this camp is not just about distribution of equipment but also a strong step of the society towards self-reliance, respect and inclusion of the Divyangjan. The prominent dignitaries present at the event included Secretary Red Cross Society Mangesh Sood, Joint Secretary Aditya Rana, Vice Chairman Rajiv Bajaj, Rajiv Kumar Singh, Chief General Manager (HR) Grid-India, Nitin Sharma, Manager (HR), Grid-India, Dr Ashok Sahu, Kanika Mehta along with several officers and social workers.
