Sangrur, 3 September:- Under the campaign launched regarding proper management of paddy stubble, a one-day farmer awareness camp was organized by Punjab Agricultural University's Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur in village Chathe Sekhwan, Block Sangrur. In which about 80 farmers including the entire Gram Panchayat of the village participated.
On this occasion, Dr. Mandeep Singh, In-charge, PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur motivated the farmers to sow wheat while conserving paddy stubble in the field itself. He made the farmers aware in detail about the effects of burning stubble on the environment, soil health and human health. He also told about the benefits of conserving stubble in the field and the improvement in soil health. He also threw light on vocational training courses being organized for farmers by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur, soil-water testing services, CRM Machinery Bank and seeds of various crops being prepared, etc.
Dr. Sunil Kumar, Assistant Professor (Farm Machinery) gave detailed information to the farmers about the agricultural machinery available for sowing wheat while conserving stubble in the field and its proper use. He also asked the farmers to avoid taking stubble out of the field and sowing wheat.
Dr. Rukinderpreet Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) gave information to the farmers regarding problems being faced in paddy cultivation such as dwarf disease, brown-backed hopper, flag disease, false smut and prevention of other diseases. He told the farmers about the benefits of using Potassium Nitrate (13:0:45) in paddy and asked them to spray it. He said that when paddy comes into booting stage then spray 1.5% Potassium Nitrate (3 kg Potassium Nitrate in 200 litres water per acre).
Dr. Ravinder Kaur, Associate Professor (Horticulture) motivated the farmers to plant a home kitchen garden for the winter season. She also gave information about different varieties of vegetables developed by Punjab Agricultural University. Apart from this, she also gave information regarding vegetable nurseries prepared for farmers by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur.
At the end of this camp, questions of farmer brothers were answered and kits of winter season vegetable seeds prepared by the University were provided to them.
In the camp, Sarpanch of the village S. Darshan Singh, Panchayat Member S. Gurdeep Singh, Shri Paramjit Sharma and Numberdar and former Sarpanch S. Nirvair Singh were specially present and thanked the team of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Sangrur from the bottom of their hearts.
