Hoshiarpur:- PAU Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bahowal organized an awareness camp on the importance of soil testing at village Saila Kalan under the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Ludhiana Chapter and in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Block Garhshankar. While interacting with the farmers, Krishi Vigyan Kendra’s Associate Director (Training) Dr. Maninder Singh Bounce shared important points about advanced techniques of cultivation of kharif crops, improved varieties, balanced use of fertilizers, comprehensive pest management and importance of soil testing.
He also motivated the farmers to adopt the university’s agricultural literature and digital newspaper, Kheti Sandesh, for information on the latest agricultural techniques. Assistant Professor (Agricultural Engineering) Dr. Ajaib Singh shared information on management of wheat stalks in the fields.
He stressed that farmers should use agricultural machinery jointly so that its full benefit can be taken. Kulwinder Sahni, Block Technology Manager (Atma) of the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, gave information about the departmental activities and farmer welfare schemes.
During the camp, a demonstration was given on the method of taking soil samples so that fertilizers can be used properly. Along with this, fodder kit, pulses and oilseed crop kit, millet kit, dairy premix for animals, animal chaat and turmeric seed were also made available for sale to the farmers and agricultural literature of PAU was given.
