Karnal, September 29:- The Karnal District Police, acting to curb the trafficking and supply of illegal weapons, has taken significant action through the CIA-3 Karnal team, uncovering an illegal arms supply network and arresting three accused in the case.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vikas alias Vicky, a resident of Karn Vihar, Karnal, and Shravan Thakur and Jageshwar alias Jaggu Lodhi, residents of village Batiya, Tehsil Patera, District Damoh, Madhya Pradesh. So far, 01 country-made firearm, 07 illegal country-made pistols, 20 live rounds and 01 motorcycle have been recovered from their possession.
Karnal Superintendent of Police Shri Karan Goyal, IPS, while addressing a press conference, said that on September 15, 2026, a team led by CIA-3 In-charge Inspector Ajay Sagwan acted on specific informer input and apprehended accused Vikas alias Vicky near the Kachhwa Canal Bridge in Karnal.
During the search, 01 country-made firearm, 01 country-made pistol, 03 live rounds and 01 motorcycle were recovered from the accused. In this connection, a case was registered under the Arms Act at Sadar Karnal Police Station and an investigation was initiated. He was produced before the Hon’ble Court and taken on five-day police remand. During the investigation conducted during the remand, it came to light that a total of seven cases are registered against accused Vikas alias Vicky, including cases related to the Arms Act and the POCSO Act.
The SP said that during further investigation, the police obtained important information about the main supplier, Shravan Thakur, son of Lakhan Singh, resident of village Batiya, Tehsil Patera, District Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, who was allegedly supplying illegal weapons to accused Vikas alias Vicky.
Acting on the information, the police team arrested Shravan Thakur and Jageshwar alias Jaggu Lodhi from village Batiya, Hatta Police Station area, District Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, on September 25, 2026, in accordance with the law.
Both accused were produced before the Hon’ble Court on September 26, 2026, which granted seven days of police remand. During the police remand, based on their disclosures and interrogation, 06 illegal country-made pistols and 17 live rounds were recovered.
Thus, a total of 08 illegal weapons, including 01 country-made firearm and 07 illegal country-made pistols, 20 live rounds and 01 motorcycle have so far been recovered in the case.
Karnal SP Shri Karan Goyal said that during the police investigation, information regarding some foreign mobile numbers and suspicious transactions related to the arrangement and funding of the weapons has also emerged. The police are conducting a detailed investigation into all these aspects.
The police are trying to ascertain which other persons are involved in the purchase and sale of illegal weapons and connected with this network. An investigation is also being conducted into the possibility that the arrested accused may be linked to an organized crime network.
Karnal Police will continue to take strict and effective action against elements involved in the trafficking and supply of illegal weapons and in promoting crime through such weapons.
