Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, September 29:- With the objective of creating voter awareness among the youth of the district and including eligible young people in the electoral roll, a meeting of the nodal officers of ELC (Electoral Literacy Club) clubs of various universities, colleges and schools in the district was held under the chairmanship of Additional District Election Officer-cum-Additional Deputy Commissioner Geetika Singh.
Nodal officers of ELC (Electoral Literacy Club) clubs from various schools in the district, including government, CBSE, ICSE, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, besides nodal officers of all universities and colleges, participated in the meeting.
On the occasion, Additional District Election Officer Geetika Singh said that it is very important to further strengthen ELC (Electoral Literacy Club) clubs to create voter awareness among the youth and make them active participants in a strong democracy. She said that ELC (Electoral Literacy Club) clubs can play an important role in educating students about the electoral process, the right to vote and responsible citizenship. The meeting was organised as part of this initiative so that voter awareness and registration campaigns could be made more effective in the coming period.
On the occasion, District Nodal Officer SVEEP Gurbakshish Singh gave detailed information about the establishment of ELC (Electoral Literacy Club) clubs, their functioning and activities related to voter awareness. He also trained the ELC (Electoral Literacy Club) nodal officers on how various activities conducted by the clubs could be effectively uploaded and publicised on social media platforms.
During the meeting, nodal officers of various institutions said that ELC (Electoral Literacy Club) clubs had already been established in their respective schools, colleges and universities. In addition, to increase student participation, one boy and one girl have been appointed as campus ambassadors in each institution.
Through these campus ambassadors and ELC (Electoral Literacy Club) clubs, various election awareness activities, voter registration campaigns, SVEEP activities and other programmes will be organised until the forthcoming Assembly elections. During this period, all eligible young people aged 18 years and above will be encouraged to register as voters and made aware of exercising their right to vote.
At present, 126 ELC (Electoral Literacy Club) clubs are active in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district, continuously conducting various voter awareness and electoral literacy activities. The district administration is continuously making efforts to make the activities of these clubs more systematic and effective.
Election Tehsildar Harpreet Kaur, Election Kanungo Sarinder Batra, besides SVEEP team members Varinder Kaur, Gurmeet Kaur, Harinder Singh and Charanjit Kaur, were specially present on the occasion.
