Karnal, June 25: The Karnal Municipal Corporation has initiated comprehensive development work for the city's major commercial hub, Karn Commercial Center (Mughal Canal) Phase-2. Under this ambitious project, modern road construction, parking facilities, footpaths, a sewerage drainage system, and a drinking water supply network will be developed. An amount of approximately ?7.18 crore will be spent on these works.
Sharing this information, Deputy Commissioner and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Anand Kumar Sharma stated that the Corporation's objective is to provide modern infrastructure in the city's key commercial areas and to facilitate smoother business activities.
**Construction of 1100-meter-long road, parking, and footpaths:**
The Municipal Commissioner stated that under the project, a bituminous road approximately 1100 meters long will be constructed, stretching from the AM-PM Store near the Old Sabzi Mandi culvert to the Honda Showroom in Sector-14. A parking area using interlocking paver blocks and footpaths paved with checker tiles will be developed on one side of the road. These works will cost approximately ?6.40 crore. Currently, the work of removing old debris and excavation is underway. Following this, soil filling will be carried out, and the construction of the road, parking, and footpaths will commence.
**Modern sewerage system to ensure better drainage:**
He mentioned that a sewerage line approximately 1400 meters long would be laid to provide a permanent solution for sewage drainage. Pipelines with diameters of 10 inches, 12 inches, and 2 feet will be installed as part of this work to ensure adequate sewage drainage. Approximately ?58.72 lakh will be spent on this task. The work of laying the sewerage line will begin soon. **Strengthening the Drinking Water Supply Network:**
Once the sewerage work is completed, a new water supply line—approximately 1,100 meters long and 4 inches in diameter—will be laid. Drinking water will be supplied from the tubewell installed during Phase 1. This project will incur an expenditure of approximately ?19 lakh.

The Municipal Commissioner stated that the completion of this development project would bring numerous benefits to the traders, shopkeepers, customers, and general citizens of Karnal, particularly those in the Karnal Commercial Center area.
He noted that a better and smoother traffic system would be established. Improved road quality would make commuting safer and more convenient. Organized parking facilities would reduce the pressure of haphazard on-street parking. The construction of footpaths would enhance safety and convenience for pedestrians. A modern sewerage system would resolve issues related to wastewater drainage.
A robust drinking water network would ensure a smoother water supply. The area's aesthetics and cleanliness would improve. Commercial activities would receive a boost, and a better environment would be created for customers. This would further strengthen Karnal's progress towards becoming a modern 'Smart City.'
