Jammu-Kashmir:- The departure of Sri Kanwal Kashmiri, the leading writer of Punjabi literature of Jammu and Kashmir, from this mortal world is an extremely sad and irreparable loss. He was not only a great writer, but also a strong pillar of Punjabi literature, who gave a new direction and consciousness to literature through his writing. He was always dedicated and ready for the development of Punjabi literature.
I pray to God to grant him a place at his feet and give the family left behind the strength to bear this irreparable loss and accept the fate.
In this hour of deep sorrow, Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Mrs. Harwinder Kaur and Editor of Shiraz, Mr. Popinder Singh Paras express their deepest sympathy to the bereaved family. The untimely demise of Shri Kanwal Kashmiri Ji has left an unfilled void in Punjabi literature.
Shri Kanwal Kashmiri Ji was awarded the Shiromani Sahityakar Samman by the Language Department, Punjab in the year 2003. Apart from this, he had also received the Best Book Award from the Jammu and Kashmir Academy four times. He was among the first Sikh community of Jammu and Kashmir to clear the JKAS examination.
