Ambala, December 19: Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar stated that the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (Prime Minister's Solar Home Free Electricity Scheme) is proving to be a boon for the residents of the district, promoting energy conservation and providing relief from the burden of electricity bills. There is considerable enthusiasm among the public in Ambala regarding this scheme. The joint initiative of the central and state governments has made this scheme so affordable that installing a solar system has become very inexpensive, almost free, for eligible families.
He informed that 3350 consumers in the district have availed of this scheme and installed solar panels. The Government of India has already transferred approximately Rs. 24 crore in subsidies directly to the bank accounts of these beneficiaries for solar systems of varying capacities. The Haryana government is also playing a crucial role in the successful implementation of the scheme.
The state government has provided an additional subsidy of approximately Rs. 0.59 crore to 130 consumers in the district, while the remaining eligible beneficiaries are also receiving the benefits of this scheme.
He further added that if a consumer is unable to make the initial investment, the government has provided options for them as well. Loan facilities are being provided through government banks at minimum interest rates.
A 2-kilowatt capacity solar system generates approximately 8 to 10 units of electricity per day, which amounts to about 300 units per month. This is sufficient for the needs of a middle-class family, effectively reducing their electricity bill to almost zero.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar said that the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is not only empowering consumers financially but is also a significant step towards environmental protection. The use of solar energy will reduce pollution and promote a clean environment.
