Chandigarh, June 3:- Haryana's Environment Minister Rao Narbir Singh said that climate change has emerged as a serious challenge before the whole world today. From the United Nations General Assembly to various countries of the world, research and innovation are continuously being promoted to find scientific solutions to this problem. Under this link, the Haryana government, taking a visionary initiative towards making the state climate-friendly and more environmentally resilient, has announced the establishment of "Haryana Green Climate Resilient Fund" with a seed provision of Rs 100 crore in the budget for the year 2026-27.
Rao Narbir Singh said that a state-level function will be organized in Gurugram on June 5 on the occasion of World Environment Day. The event will highlight the various initiatives of the state government to tackle environmental conservation, green development and climate change.
Rao Narbir Singh said that this year the theme of World Environment Day has been set as ‘Inspired by Nature – for Climate – for our Future’. This theme emphasizes the need for global cooperation to mitigate the impacts of climate change, conserve and restore ecosystems, promote clean energy, adopt sustainable lifestyles and secure future.
He said that the Rs 100 crore Green Climate Fund proposed by the state government will play a significant role in promoting zero-emission vehicles, renewable energy, energy efficiency, water conservation, urban greenery, climate-friendly agriculture and nature-based solutions in Haryana. Through this, innovation-based investment in the field of environmental conservation will be encouraged along with effectively addressing the challenges of air and water pollution.
The Forest and Environment Minister said that the Haryana Government has taken the initiative to work in a special mission mode to make the 313 km long Yamuna river passing through the state pollution-free. Under this mission, which will be run under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini, important works like increasing the capacity of sewage treatment, stopping uncontrolled waste flow, real-time monitoring of industrial units, conservation of river banks, development of green belt and recharge of groundwater will be done. He said that during the year 2026-27, scientific treatment of water from all drains falling in Yamuna will be ensured, so that the goal of making the river clean and pollution-free can be achieved. He expressed confidence that these initiatives will give a new direction to environmental conservation in Haryana and the state will move forward rapidly on the path of sustainable, inclusive and green development. Along with this, he appealed to the residents of the state to make environmental conservation an integral part of their lifestyle and avoid the use of single-use plastic.
