Chandigarh, September 13:- Haryana Governor Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh called upon society to always remember the sacrifices of the country's brave soldiers, respect their families, and draw inspiration from their courage, dedication and service to the nation.
Addressing the Veer Nari Samman Samaroh organised today by Akhil Bharatiya Ex-Servicemen Sewa Parishad, Haryana, in Panchkula, the Governor said that the welfare, honour and rehabilitation of ex-servicemen and Veer Naris is a collective responsibility of all of us.
Referring to the welfare initiatives being undertaken for ex-servicemen and their families, Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh said that several important initiatives have been taken in their interest, including the implementation of 'One Rank One Pension'. He stated that the ex-gratia amount provided to the families of soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice while defending the country has been increased from Rs. 50 lakh to Rs. 1 crore.
On the occasion, the Governor honoured Veer Naris and paid tribute to their sacrifice, courage and contribution to the nation. He also announced a grant of Rs. 10 lakh for the welfare of ex-servicemen and their dependents.
During the programme, Prof. Ghosh also unveiled two books, 'Purv Sainik Gaurav Smarika' and 'Vikas Ki Buland Udaan'.
Prof. Asim Kumar Ghosh said that Haryana has a rich and glorious military tradition. Countless soldiers from the state have served the nation with unparalleled courage, dedication and patriotism. Referring to the valiant contribution of soldiers from the Ahirwal region in the Battle of Rezang La, he said that their bravery and supreme sacrifice will continue to inspire generations to come.
He said that at Rezang La, the brave soldiers displayed unparalleled courage and determination despite difficult circumstances and immense challenges. Their sacrifice is an indelible example of Indian military valour. He said that true courage is not defined by numbers or circumstances, but by the resolve to stand firm until the last moment in defence of the motherland.
The Governor said that the Haryana Government has established the 'Sainik and Ardh-Sainik Welfare Department' with the aim of making schemes related to the welfare of soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families more effective.
He stated that this year, the budget allocation for the Sainik and Ardh-Sainik Welfare Department has been increased by 58.93 per cent to Rs. 178.14 crore. He said that this reflects the state government's commitment to the welfare and empowerment of soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families.
The Governor appealed to everyone to never forget the sacrifices of soldiers, ex-servicemen and Veer Naris and to ensure appropriate respect, care and every possible support for their families. He said that the Haryana Government will continue to work with full commitment towards the welfare, rehabilitation and empowerment of soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families.
On the occasion, Haryana's First Lady Smt. Mitra Ghosh, President of Akhil Bharatiya Ex-Servicemen Sewa Parishad, Haryana, Colonel Gopal Singh, former Rajya Sabha member Lieutenant General D.P. Vats, National Senior Vice President of the Parishad Major General R.P.S. Bhadauria, along with other officials of the district administration, were also present.
