Chhajli/Sangrur, September 7:- Punjab Finance Minister S. Harpal Singh Cheema laid the foundation stone of the new building of the Block Development and Panchayat Office (BDPO), to be constructed at a cost of around Rs 2 crore at Chhajli, and formally started the construction work by performing the groundbreaking ceremony. He said that the new office would bring rural administration closer to the people and give new impetus to the development of the area.
Congratulating the local residents, Panchayat Samiti members, chairmen, vice-chairmen and panches-sarpanches, S. Harpal Singh Cheema said that Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann had approved this block a few months ago. He said that with the new block office coming into existence, panchayats would no longer need to travel to far-off block offices for their work, and services would become more convenient at the local level.
The Finance Minister said that the 6,600-square-foot building has been targeted for completion within six months. Modern facilities including a reception, chairman room, BDPO room, staff hall, meeting hall, record room, waiting area, NREGA staff room and toilets will be provided here.
S. Cheema said that the government’s development vision is not limited to constructing buildings, but is also linked to saving people’s time, making administrative access easier and expanding the range of facilities in rural life. He said that development in Chhajli and the surrounding area is being given a multi-dimensional direction through roads, sports grounds/stadiums, an astroturf, School of Eminence and expansion of health facilities. He said that providing quality sports facilities to the youth and channelizing their energy in a constructive direction is also a priority of the government. The Finance Minister said that work is also being carried out rapidly to take canal water to the fields so that groundwater can be conserved for future generations.
