Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, October 23:- Under the ‘Every Friday, Attack Dengue’ campaign, the District Health Department conducted special inspections and awareness activities at various private hospitals across the district to prevent dengue. Civil Surgeon Dr. Sangeeta Jain visited Fortis Hospital in Mohali and inspected potential mosquito-breeding sites on the hospital premises.

She instructed the hospital management to ensure that water did not stagnate anywhere on the premises, as the mosquito that spreads dengue fever breeds in clean, stagnant water. During the inspection, the health team found mosquito larvae at two locations in the hospital, which were destroyed immediately.

Dr. Jain directed the hospital management to ensure that the tank in which larvae were found was cleaned once a week and that the Health Department was informed about the routine measures being followed in this regard. She warned that appropriate action would be taken if larvae were found during the next inspection.

District Epidemiologist Dr. Anamika Soni explained to hospital employees that mosquito larvae can develop into dangerous mosquitoes within a few days, potentially putting human lives at risk. She said that the dengue-causing mosquito bites during the daytime and breeds in clean water.

She explained that dengue is a fever caused by the bite of the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Common symptoms include severe headache and high fever, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, nausea and vomiting. In severe cases, bleeding from the nose, mouth and gums may also occur.

The health team included Health Supervisor Gurbinderjit Singh, Health Workers Baljit Singh, Gurjit Singh and Bhupinder Kumar, along with breeding checkers and other personnel.
