Una, June 5: To mark International Yoga Day, the AYUSH Department is organizing yoga and health awareness activities across various institutions in the Amb and Gagret subdivisions. Dr. Rajesh Sharma, Sub-divisional AYUSH Medical Officer (Amb/Bhanjal), stated that these programs aim to raise awareness among the public about yoga and healthy lifestyles.
As part of this initiative, special yoga sessions were held at the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Nerian and the Gagret Police Station. Participants—including students, staff, and police personnel—were informed about the importance of regular yoga practice and its positive effects on physical and mental health. Yoga instructors also guided them through various *asanas* (postures) and *pranayama* (breathing exercises).
Additionally, a tree plantation drive was organized today (Friday) at the ITI Nerian campus to observe World Environment Day. Saplings were planted to convey messages regarding environmental conservation, increasing green cover, and creating a clean, healthy environment. Participants were encouraged to play an active role in nature conservation.
Speaking at the World Environment Day awareness program, Dr. Rajesh Sharma emphasized that a clean environment is the cornerstone of a healthy life. He highlighted the deep connection between nature and human health, noting that environmental conservation is a critical need of the hour. He urged everyone to plant more trees, reduce plastic usage, and adopt water and energy conservation practices.
During the event, participants received detailed information on various environmental conservation measures. Emphasis was also placed on promoting environmental awareness through tree plantation and cleanliness drives organized by schools, colleges, and social organizations.
Dr. Narendra, Dr. Iti Shree, Dr. Paramjit Nanda, and yoga instructors actively participated in the proceedings. They encouraged the attendees to incorporate yoga into their daily lives and fulfill their responsibilities towards environmental conservation. Additionally, Dr. Rajesh Sharma stated that the AYUSH Department will continuously organize pre-event activities related to yoga, health, and public awareness at various offices, educational institutions, and community venues leading up to International Yoga Day on June 21.
