SAS Nagar (Mohali), September 7, 2026:- Office-bearers of the Punjab Mandi Board Employees' Union and all Class III employees met Punjab Mandi Board Chairman S. Harchand Singh Barsat today. On the occasion, Union President Surinder Singh, General Secretary Mukesh Kumar, Vice President Gurpreet Singh, Press Secretary Harish Prasad, Cashier Bhupinder Singh, Sukhwinder Singh Gill and other employees apprised the Chairman of their demands and various issues concerning employees and sought their early resolution.
The Union representatives also raised the issue of the service conditions of employees merged from Punjab Agro and the cases filed by them regarding their seniority. The Union leaders brought to the Chairman's notice that the orders concerning Punjab Agro employees merged into the Punjab Mandi Board had clearly stated that the seniority of these employees would be counted from the date of their merger into the Punjab Mandi Board and would be fixed below the seniority of clerks appointed earlier in the Punjab Mandi Board.
In addition, the Union demanded that Punjab Agro employees working on deputation in the Punjab Mandi Board be immediately sent back to their parent department. The Union leaders also demanded that a complete ban be imposed in future on taking employees from any other department or corporation on deputation or merging them into the Punjab Mandi Board. They said that this would help prevent problems arising in the promotions, seniority and other service-related matters of the existing employees of the Punjab Mandi Board. They said that timely resolution of the genuine demands of employees would not only create satisfaction among the employees but would also further improve the functioning of the department. On this occasion, the Union also submitted a memorandum of demands to the Chairman.
Chairman S. Harchand Singh Barsat listened attentively to the demands of the representatives and assured them that the Punjab Mandi Board would consider these demands sympathetically and take appropriate action at the earliest. S. Barsat said that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is continuously working for the welfare of every section of the state and is also committed to protecting the interests of employees.
