Hoshiarpur, July 28:- The Language Department, Office of the District Language Officer, Hoshiarpur, in collaboration with Sahitya Sabha Dasuha-Garhdiwala and Progressive Writers' Association, Hoshiarpur, organized a Kavi Darbar in memory of Dr. Mahendra Singh Randhawa's unique contribution to Punjabi literature and folklore at Dr. M.S. Randhawa Fruit Research Center, Gangian (Dasuha).
The event was graced by Prof. Surjit Judge as the chief guest, Jasbir Singh Dhiman as the special guest and Prof. Baldev Singh Balli as the presiding officer. While delivering the welcome address, Prof. Baldev Singh Balli shared his heartfelt thoughts on the life, literature and contribution of Dr. Mahendra Singh Randhawa, a resident of village Bodal, Hoshiarpur, towards society.
Giving information about the activities of the Language Department, Research Officer Dr. Jaswant Rai said that Dr. Randhawa made invaluable contributions in the field of Punjabi literature, folklore and agriculture. He said that 'Kangre di Kala te Lok Geet', 'Punjab de Lok Geet', 'Bharti Kheti da Itihas' (four volumes), science-related books and timeless books like 'Punjab' are his important works. Apart from this, he also had an important contribution in the establishment of Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Rose Garden. He said that Dr. Randhawa provided a strong foundation to Punjabi language, culture and heritage.
Prof. Kewal Kaloti, Prof. Sham Singh, Prof. Surjit Judge and Jasbir Singh Dhiman also shared their views on this topic.
On this occasion, the special issue 131-132 (April-September 2026) of the quarterly magazine 'Chirag' of the Language Department was also launched.
In the Kavi Darbar held later, Dr. Shamsher Mohi, Navtej Garhdiwala, Manjit Kaifi, Dr. Naranjan, Prof. Malkit Joura, Dr. Armanpreet Singh, Harpal Singh, Dilpreet Kahlon, Tarsem Singh, Dr. Sarabjot Singh, Harshwinder Kaur, Dr. Sonia Devi, Rajinder Singh Dhadda, Navjot Singh Raju, Avtar Singh and Inderjit Kajal presented their poems and poetic compositions and gave literary colors to the event.
At the end of the event, the Department of Languages ??honored the Chief Guest Prof. Surjit Judge, Special Guest Jasbir Singh Dhiman and President Prof. Baldev Singh Balli by presenting them with the department's lois and books. Apart from this, the poets were also presented with sets of books.
Dr. M.S. Randhawa Fruit Research Center entertained the writers with local mangoes and cold lassi. In the end, novelist Surinder Neki expressed his vote of thanks, while Navtej Garhdiwala beautifully conducted the stage of the event in a poetic style.
