Kapurthala:- On May 4, 2026, Mrs. Jaspreet Kaur, District Language Officer, Kapurthala, held a meeting with the district administration to ensure the implementation of the Punjabi Language Amendment Act. During this meeting, while handing over copies of the instructions to the Honorable Deputy Commissioner, Mr. Akash Bansal, and sharing information regarding the act and its long-term vision, Mrs. Jaspreet Kaur stated that the Punjab Government has made it mandatory to conduct all official work in the Punjabi language across all government departments of the district.
Sharing samples for nameplates, signboards, and directional boards, she mentioned that according to government instructions, while writing names on boards of any government or private institution, the Punjabi language must be written first, followed by any other language underneath. Under the Official Language Act, it was also conveyed that the websites of all district departments must be available in both English and Punjabi.
The District Administration lauded the Act and stated that they would notify all departments in the district to implement these instructions. The District Language Officer further informed that she conducts time-bound inspections of government departments' performance in Punjabi, as well as inspections of boards at educational and commercial establishments, and sends a monthly report to the government. Information regarding educational institutions is obtained annually from the Education Department, and meetings are held periodically with the Chamber of Commerce.
On this occasion, Mr. Sakattar Singh Ball (Additional Assistant Commissioner General), Kapurthala, was welcomed with a book published by the Language Department, Punjab. Information regarding the activities of the Language Department Punjab, district-level Urdu classes, the book sales center, and book exhibitions was also shared.
