Jalandhar:- "On the occasion of the martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh, the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee, while addressing the historically important and burning questions of the present time from a pro-people perspective, showed that there is a need to pave the way towards completing our history and the story of our beloved martyrs." This was the central message of the Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial event celebrated at the local Desh Bhagat Yadgar Hall today. The specific topic of today's event was the book ''Bharat-Wand-e-Khayyar Musalman'' written by the country's eminent research writer, historian and artist Shamsul Islam.
Buta Singh Mahmudpur was also the main speaker at the discussion held on this book, translated into Punjabi by Buta Singh Mahmudpur. Gurmeet Singh, General Secretary of the Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee, said that taking inspiration from the life journey of the great martyr Udham Singh, especially the rising youth, instead of wandering around the country and the state, there is a need to dedicate their lives to the great cause of freedom, democracy and equality to fulfill the dreams of the Ghadri patriots, Udham Singh and the martyrs of the next series.
Buta Singh Mahmudpur, the main speaker of the discussion held on the occasion of Udham Singh Shaheed Samagam, said in his brief speech that, "Shamsul Islam's book, 'Muslims Against India', hidden or, let's say, hidden in the bosom of the past, reveals the priceless historical treasure of our common, rich historical heritage and presents it to us, on which not one but a continuous series of dialogues and discussions are required."
He said that Shamsul Islam, by citing solid historical facts, gives this richness to the book that the long, hard-working and glorious role played by patriotic Muslims with high and pure thinking during the freedom struggle and the partition of the country cannot be suppressed in any communal fascist atmosphere. Buta Singh said that apart from leading the Muslims struggling for a united India against the communal politics of the Muslim League, Allah Bakhsh chose the path of challenging the tyrannical rule of the British.
Mentioning that Allah Bakhsh was assassinated on 14 May 1943 because he gave the message of fighting for the freedom of the common homeland against all forms of communalism, bigotry and narrow-mindedness, he said that how can the story of their blood be forgotten or erased, who rose above religion and community and fought for the freedom of the country. Prof. Tejinder Virli, while praising the important aspects of the book, pointed out that the book does not mention the evil intentions of the British Empire and the misdeeds of erecting communal walls and spreading hatred, which should have been done.
Addressing on behalf of the presidium of the discussion, Vice President of Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee Dr. Parminder said that Shamsul Islam's book is very valuable in the current critical period of the country. Dr. Parminder said that today, at a time when attacks are taking place in Jantar Mantar and different parts of the country, today's discussion gives a message to the pro-people, secular forces to come out in the field with power.
The stage manager of today's event, convener of the cultural wing of Desh Bhagat Yadgar Committee Amolak Singh said that the time is very critical in our country, the heirs of Shaheed Udham Singh need to build a fortress of their power. If we remain indecisive and do not build a strong pro-people force, then we will face a situation much more serious than 'India Partition'.
