Rohtak: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is serving a 20-year sentence for the rape of two female disciples (sadhvis), walked out of the District Jail in Sunaria village, Rohtak, on a 21-day furlough on Tuesday morning. The jail administration has granted him this temporary release for a period of 21 days.
The Dera chief exited the jail premises in an SUV around 6:05 AM amidst a tight police security cordon. Elaborate security arrangements were put in place by the police around the jail. According to reports, Ram Rahim will stay at his main Dera headquarters in Sirsa during the furlough.
This marks the 17th instance of his release from jail on furlough or parole since his sentencing by the special CBI court in Panchkula in August 2017. It is the third time this year alone that he has stepped out of jail; he was previously granted a 40-day furlough in January and a 30-day furlough in May.
It is noteworthy that the Dera Sacha Sauda chief has been lodged in Sunaria Jail since 2017, following his conviction and sentencing to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by the special CBI court for raping two female devotees.
