New Delhi:- The Union Cabinet has approved the construction of the six-lane Dwarka tunnel in Delhi. It will be eight km long and will cost around ?6,970 crore. The Union Cabinet has also approved the construction of a four-lane highway between Kanpur and Kabrai in Uttar Pradesh.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav today announced major cabinet decisions to accelerate infrastructure development. He said that the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved two major road projects worth a total of ?14,115 crore to enhance the transport system in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. These decisions include the construction of a new six-lane Dwarka tunnel within Delhi and a four-lane highway from Kanpur to Kabrai in Uttar Pradesh. This initiative will not only ease traffic congestion but also represents a major strategic investment in the country's infrastructure.
The total length of the entire Dwarka Tunnel project will be 8.1 km. Its most significant engineering and environmental advantage is that 3.1 km of this total length will pass under the Southern Ridge Forest. It is a greenfield alignment that will be developed under a hybrid annuity mode. The government has allocated a budget of ?6,970 crore for this project, and its construction time frame is 5 years.
A significant decision has been taken towards infrastructure expansion for Delhi as well as Uttar Pradesh. The Cabinet has also approved the proposal to build a new four-lane access-controlled highway from Kanpur to Kabrai. A total of ?7,145 crore will be spent on this major highway project, which will strengthen the connectivity of Uttar Pradesh.
