Nawanshahr: To curb drug trafficking and abuse in the district, a meeting of the NCORD (Narcotics Coordination Mechanism) committee was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Gulpreet Singh Aulakh and SSP Tushar Gupta.
During the meeting, officials reviewed the drug situation in the district, actions taken over the last month, and cases registered under the NDPS Act. The Deputy Commissioner stated that the administration and police department are jointly adopting a 'zero tolerance' policy to eradicate drugs. He directed officials from the health, education, social security, and municipal council departments to intensify anti-drug awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, bus stands, and villages.
SSP Tushar Gupta stated that a special drive is being conducted against drug peddlers, and security has been tightened at border/suspicious areas. He instructed Station House Officers (SHOs) to target not only small-time drug sellers but also the major suppliers behind the scenes and ensure proceedings for the forfeiture of their properties.
The meeting also discussed the performance of de-addiction centers, rehabilitation, and counseling arrangements under the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan'. The Deputy Commissioner directed that a report on the action taken be presented every month during the meeting. Officers from the police department were present on this occasion.
