Hoshiarpur:- Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has reiterated its firm and long-pending demand that cross-border trade through the Wagah Border should be resumed immediately. The party considers it extremely important for economic revival, regional cooperation, and sustainable peace. The party also emphasized that this is not merely an economic issue but a historical and strategic necessity for the people of Punjab.
These views were expressed by Gurnam Singh Singriwala, District President of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), while speaking about the major conference being organized at Wagah Border on 28 March under the leadership of Party President Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann.
Singriwala stated that the resumption of trade between East Punjab and West Punjab would greatly benefit farmers in the region, who are currently facing limited market access, price fluctuations, and rising costs. Access to a nearby and larger market would ensure better prices for their produce and reduce dependence on domestic markets. Perishable goods such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, and poultry would reach their destinations faster, resulting in lower losses and higher income.
On this occasion, Singriwala further said that to gain public support, the party has announced a “Border Open” rally at the Attari–Wagah border on 28 March 2026 under the leadership of Party President Simranjit Singh Mann. The party has appealed to farmers, traders, industrialists, and the general public to participate in large numbers and urged the governments to take immediate and people-centric steps to open this important trade route.
