Patiala:- Under the leadership of the Joint Struggle Committee Municipal Corporation and Safai Sewak Union Punjab, a protest was held at Anardana Chowk in Patiala by burning an effigy of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in protest against the police lathicharge on striking sanitation workers in Barnala.
This protest march started from A-Tank and was taken out through Adalat Bazar to Anardana Chowk. During this, the Joint Struggle Committee, Municipal Corporation, Municipal Councils and sanitation workers raised slogans against the government in support of the ongoing strike at the Punjab level.
The protest was led by Sunil Bidlan, District President of Safai Sewak Union Punjab, Vijay Kumar Kalyan, President of Technical Employees Union (A-Tank Nagar Nigam), Shami Kumar, President of Safai Sewak Union Patiala and Mukesh Rahi, President of Contract Safai Sewak Union.
On this occasion, senior leaders of Valmiki Samaj Lovely Achhoot, Rajesh Bagan and Arun Dhaliwal also participated and strongly condemned the action of Punjab Police and Punjab Government.
Union leaders Sunil Kumar Bidlan, Vijay Kumar Kalyan, Shami Kumar, Mukesh Rahi, Vicky Kumar Gill and Aman Kumar Sharma jointly said that Safai Sewak Union Punjab is going on a work-free strike for restoration of the old pension scheme, regularization of raw employees, cancellation of ten-year policy and release of five and a half years of pay-commission arrears among other demands. Under this, protests are being held in various cities of Punjab.
The leaders said that the police lathi-charge on the striking sanitation workers in Barnala is causing huge protest among sanitation workers and Valmiki Samaj across the state. They demanded from the government that the DSP and SHO of Barnala responsible for this incident should be immediately dismissed.
On this occasion, a large number of union leaders and employees including Deepak Kumar, Lakhwinder Singh, Kuldeep, Pradeep Kumar, Govinda, Vicky, Vijay Kumar Sangar, Parvinder Goldy, Bobby Gagat, Bini Kander, Ajay Kumar, Sachin Kumar, Rinku Kumar, Kunal were present.
