Toronto: Canada and India will work fast to move forward with a trade deal after two years of strained relations, Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand said on Monday. Anand's statement came after a meeting between Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi at the G20 summit in South Africa over the weekend.
The two leaders agreed to resume talks on a new trade deal. Anand told this news agency in a telephone interview that both leaders were determined to complete this work as soon as possible. Carney will visit India early next year.
Anand mentioned Carney's goal of doubling non-US trade in the next decade. Canada is one of the few countries in the world whose economy depends on trade and more than 75 percent of Canada's exports go to the US.
