Karnal, March 1: A tragic road accident in Karnal's Sector 9 area resulted in the death of a grandmother and granddaughter, while the young man riding the bike was seriously injured. A speeding dumper hit the bike from behind, crushing it, and the driver fled with the vehicle. The incident caused a stir in the area. Police have registered a case and launched a search for the accused driver.
According to police information, 55-year-old Phoolwati, aka Phoolo Devi, a resident of Bada village, her 15-year-old granddaughter Deepika, and 35-year-old son Rajbir were traveling to Karnal on a bike. They were going to Shiv Colony to express condolences for the death of a relative. As their bike approached Ashoka Nursery in Sector 9, a speeding dumper coming from behind hit them, causing the bike to lose balance.
In the accident, the grandmother and granddaughter were thrown directly under the dumper, and the vehicle ran over them. Both died tragically on the spot. Rajbir, who was riding the bike, fell to the other side and was seriously injured. Passersby immediately informed the police. The deceased, Deepika, was a 10th-grade student currently taking board exams. She had already taken two exams.
Family members said she was a bright student and dreamed of achieving great things in her future. The family is deeply shocked by her untimely death. The deceased's son-in-law, Surendra Kumar, said that Rajbir was on his way to offer condolences to his mother and daughter, but the accident occurred on the way. Rajbir is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
At the same time, the convoy of Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan was also passing by. Seeing the crowd on the road and the accident, he immediately stopped the convoy and got down to the spot to assess the situation. He spoke with police officers and directed them to take strict action. He spoke with the Superintendent of Police, Karnal, over the phone, instructing them to take immediate action in the matter and urging people to immediately assist those injured in road accidents.
Investigating officer Sandeep Kumar stated that both bodies have been taken into custody and placed in the mortuary of Kalpana Chawla Medical College in Karnal for post-mortem. The bodies will be handed over to the families after the post-mortem. Police are searching for the absconding dumper driver.
