Haroli/Una, August 6 (Rajveer Chopra): A case has come to light involving the alleged public assault of Vikas Kumar—a resident of Basdehra in Una district, Himachal Pradesh—following a dispute over a food bill at a *dhaba* (eatery) near the Jalandhar bus stand. The incident became a topic of discussion after a video of the altercation went viral on social media. According to reports, an argument broke out between the customer and the *dhaba* operator when the bill for the meal consumed by two individuals came to approximately ?180.
The dispute escalated rapidly, leading to a physical scuffle between the two parties right on the street. During this altercation, Vikas Kumar was allegedly assaulted, causing him mental and physical distress. Following the incident, Vikas Kumar submitted a written complaint to Police Station Division-6 (Jalandhar Commissionerate), demanding strict legal action against the accused.
Recognizing the seriousness of the matter, a delegation led by Rajat Rana, President of the District BJP Yuva Morcha (Una), met with police officials to demand justice for the victim. The delegation stated that assaulting a citizen in a public place poses a serious challenge to law and order and insisted that strict action be taken against the perpetrators.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. Officials stated that all evidence, including the viral video, is being examined; legal action under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) will be taken against the accused based on the facts that emerge during the investigation. The victim's side has demanded a fair investigation and the immediate arrest of the guilty parties.
