Santoshgarh/Una, April 6 (Rajveer Chopra):— Deep-seated resentment against the administration is evident among the residents of Sanoli, Majara, Malukpur, Poona, Binewal, and Ajauli—villages located within the Una district. The villagers allege that despite being an integral part of Una district, these villages have been grappling with basic infrastructural issues for a long time; yet, the administration has completely failed to address their plight.
Locals state that whenever a young person from these villages loses their life abroad—whether in an accident or amidst conflict situations—not a single administrative official reaches out to the bereaved families to offer condolences. This perceived neglect has led to a steady rise in feelings of alienation and anger among the villagers.
The increasing frequency of road accidents near the Ajauli toll barrier has also become a major cause for concern. According to the villagers, this area has effectively turned into an accident hotspot; yet, despite this alarming reality, the administration has failed to take any concrete remedial measures.
The situation becomes even more dire during the monsoon season. Villagers allege that due to the negligence of the Public Works Department (PWD), drainage channels have become clogged, resulting in floodwaters—ranging from three to five feet in depth—inundating their homes every year. Shockingly, to this day, no administrative official has deemed it necessary to visit the site and personally assess the situation.
The local transport system is also in a state of complete collapse. Vehicles belonging to these villages are not affiliated with any transport union; consequently, local youth are compelled to seek employment opportunities abroad out of sheer necessity.
Furthermore, the sanitary conditions in these villages are abysmal; ponds are choked with garbage, and stray animals roam freely through the streets and agricultural fields, causing immense hardship to both farmers and the general public.
The villagers have issued a stern warning: if the administration fails to resolve these issues in a timely manner, the situation could deteriorate even further during the upcoming monsoon season. They have demanded immediate intervention and the implementation of concrete measures by the administration to provide relief to the villages and ensure that residents can lead safe and secure lives. In this regard, Bhupinder Singh, Narinder Singh, Kehar Singh Sandhu, Daljit Singh, Pal Singh Poona, Manjit Kaur, Jasvir Kaur, Rajesh Kumar, Hardayal Singh, Avtar Singh, along with other villagers, have raised their voices.
