Haroli/Una, March 24 (Rajveer Chopra):— The police have successfully solved a snatching incident that occurred on February 15 in Sahuwal—within the jurisdiction of the Haroli Police Station—and have arrested both accused individuals.
According to reports, on February 15, 2026, the complainant, Sonia (a resident of Beetan), was waiting for a bus in Sahuwal along with her sister-in-law at approximately 11:00 AM. During this time, two unidentified youths riding a motorcycle first attempted to snatch the earrings from their ears; however, this attempt failed. Subsequently, making a second attempt, they snatched a purse from the complainant's hand and fled the scene in the direction of Punjab.
Following the incident, the women attempted to chase the accused with the assistance of a passerby, but to no avail. Thereafter, a case was registered at the Haroli Police Station, and the responsibility for the investigation was entrusted to Assistant Sub-Inspector Deepak Kumar.
During the course of the investigation, the police meticulously scrutinized CCTV footage from the vicinity of the crime scene for three consecutive days and, with the aid of informants, successfully identified both accused individuals. Under the leadership of Station House Officer Sunil Kumar Sankhyan, the police team conducted a raid in Tutu Majra village (Garhshankar) and arrested the first accused, Varinder Singh (26). A stolen mobile phone and the motorcycle used in the commission of the crime were recovered from his possession. The accused was produced before a court and has been remanded to judicial custody.
The police have also arrested the second accused, Harjit Singh alias 'Billa' (a resident of Jaijon Doaba, District Hoshiarpur), from his residence, acting on the basis of surveillance and human intelligence. A second mobile phone was also recovered from his possession.
Superintendent of Police Sachin Hirameth stated that this snatching case was successfully solved through diligent effort and technical assistance. He further added that the CCTV cameras installed across the Haroli region played a pivotal role in resolving this case.
