Chandigarh, May 12 - Giving information, the spokesperson of the Haryana State Election Commission said that all the necessary preparations have been completed for the counting of the general and by-elections of the Municipal Corporations held in the state. Instructions have been issued to the concerned District Election Officers and Returning Officers to complete the process of counting of votes in a fair, transparent, peaceful and smooth manner.
The spokesperson said that the counting of the Municipal Corporation elections will begin on May 13, 2026 from 8:00 am at the concerned counting centers. The counting work will be completed as per the prescribed guidelines and rules and every stage will be monitored by the concerned officers, so that the entire process remains transparent and credible.
He said that extensive and robust security arrangements have been made at all the counting centers. Only authorized persons will be allowed to go to the counting places. CCTV surveillance, barricading, deployment of sufficient police force and necessary basic facilities have been ensured at the centres.
The spokesperson said that special police security will be provided during the movement of EVM machines from strong rooms to counting centres and during their return to safe places after counting. In addition, instructions have been given to keep a close watch on the activities of unwanted and anti-social elements.
He said that a special checking drive will be launched near the counting centres to prevent weapons and suspicious activities. In order to maintain law and order, unnecessary gathering of crowds will not be allowed near the counting centres and strict action will be taken against those creating noise or obstruction as per the rules.
The spokesperson said that instructions have been given to the officers of the district administration and police department to maintain full vigilance and readiness to deal with any untoward situation so that the counting process can be completed in a peaceful and safe environment.
The Commission has appealed to all candidates, election agents and supporters to cooperate with the administration in maintaining law and order and not to pay attention to any kind of rumors.
The spokesperson said that the duty of General Observer and concerned Returning Officers has been imposed at each counting center, so that any kind of problem, complaint and necessary information can be ensured immediately during the counting process. He said that if the candidates, election agents and other authorized persons have any kind of doubt or problem, they can contact the concerned authorities for immediate resolution.
It is worth mentioning that the Municipal Corporation elections conducted by the Haryana Election Commission on May 10, 2026 were concluded peacefully and successfully. Under these elections, voting was held in Ambala, Panchkula and Sonipat Municipal Corporations, Rewari Municipal Council and Dharuhera, Sampla and Uklana Municipal Corporations. Apart from this, the by-elections to wards in various municipal corporation areas of the state were also successfully completed.
