Hoshiarpur: Having lost the trust of the people in Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government—in a bid to salvage its credibility—is now preparing to "hijack" the municipal corporation elections through strong-arm tactics rather than contesting them in a democratic manner. These remarks were made by Varinder Singh Bajwa, a former Rajya Sabha member of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), while addressing a crucial meeting of potential SAD candidates regarding the Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation elections.
Taking sharp aim at the government, Varinder Bajwa stated that this is the first government in the state's history to have openly trampled upon democratic values.
Presiding over the meeting, District President (Urban) Jatinder Singh Lali Bajwa asserted that the Shiromani Akali Dal would give a befitting reply to every act of high-handedness and coercion by the government. He claimed that in the upcoming elections, the people of Punjab would decisively reject the incumbent government.
Constituency In-charge Sanjeev Talwar extended his best wishes to the potential candidates, emphasizing that the morale of the party workers serves as the first stepping stone toward victory. He appealed to every candidate to go door-to-door to connect with the people and to highlight the developmental works undertaken during the Shiromani Akali Dal's tenure.
He added that once the entire leadership unites and enters the electoral fray, the Shiromani Akali Dal's flag is bound to fly high.
Prominent among those present on this occasion were Prem Singh (District President, SC Wing), Santosh Singh Aujla (District President, Trade Cell), Varinder Singh Parmar (District General Secretary), Harji Bajwa (In-charge, Lok Sabha Youth Wing), Bikramjit Singh Kalsi, Niti Talwar, Sanjeev Thapar, Lovely Pehalwan, and Ved Prakash, among others.
