Kharar, November 22: Punjab Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, while inaugurating the newly built high-tech auditorium at Gillco International School, Kharar, said that teachers are the true sculptors of students. They shape children’s lives and act as role models.
He said that today, drug abuse is a major challenge for the youth in Punjab, and educational institutions can play a crucial role in preventing it. Kataria highlighted that Punjab has always made the nation proud—eight players in the Paris games were from Punjab, and for the first time, four women cricketers from Punjab won medals. Many officers in the Indian Army and freedom fighters like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev also belong to Punjab.
He emphasized that sports can help eliminate discrimination in society, and it is the duty of teachers to motivate children to participate. Referring to the inspiring journey of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, he said that even a child from a poor family can rise to the highest positions in the country.
He added that only when children receive complete and quality education in schools will the nation become strong — such students are the true pride of India. Today’s youth have immense talent and excel globally, including becoming top doctors in places like New York. He said that India in 2047 will depend on how strong and capable our educational institutions are.
Sharing his own journey, Kataria said he was once a teacher before entering politics, and even today he is committed to strengthening educational institutions. He praised Ranjit Singh Gill, Chairman of Gillco International School, for fulfilling his mother’s vision of making the school a center of excellence in academics, sports, and other fields.
Gill shared that the auditorium, multipurpose facilities, and indoor sports centers are now ready with modern technology. He said that the school never compromises on quality education and its students have performed exceptionally at state and international levels.
The event featured cultural performances, bhangra, and gidha by students. Those present included Principal Dr. Kritika Kaushik, Jai Kaur Gill, Paramjit Kaur, Tejpreet Singh Gill, Amanpreet Singh Gill, Tejinder Singh Saran, Vice Principal Shiv Shankar Paul, Randhir Singh Dheera, Bhupinder Singh Kala, staff members, parents, students, and residents of the city.
