Una, February 12: A massive rally was held at the Martyrs Memorial Complex on Thursday in support of MNREGA workers. Organized under the aegis of Bhadiara Hira Nagar, a large number of MNREGA workers, social activists, and local citizens participated in the rally, strongly raising their demands.
Addressing the rally, Dr. Rajiv Major emphasized the need to effectively re-implement the MNREGA Act. He said that MNREGA is a lifeline for the rural poor and the working class, and therefore, it should be strengthened rather than weakened.
Dr. Major also prominently raised demands for the withdrawal of the new labor code, the cancellation of the decision to install smart meters, the abolition of the contract system, and the cancellation of the proposed trade agreement with the United States. He warned that if the government continues to ignore the interests of workers and the general public, the movement will be intensified through democratic means.
He called on all organizations and citizens to unite in support of the working class. Several social activists and local citizens, including Ravindra Joshi, Brij Rana, Advocate Pawan Rana, Harmesh Kumar, and Subhash Bagga, were present on the occasion.
Speakers unanimously stated that the struggle to protect workers' rights will continue. The program concluded with tributes to the martyrs and slogans of worker unity.
The organizers clarified that if a positive decision on their demands is not taken soon, the movement will expand further.
