Garhshankar 15 November 2025:- A historic scene was witnessed in Garhshankar constituency today, when a large number of sarpanches and representatives of the panchayats of the constituency gathered together and submitted a demand letter to Punjab Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker and Constituency MLA S. Jai Krishan Singh Raudi, demanding the connection of Garhshankar with district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar (Nawanshahr).
The panchayat representatives said that this demand has been in the hearts of the people continuously for many decades but the previous governments always ignored this important issue. They said that many villages of Garhshankar constituency are geographically very close to Nawanshahr but the tiring journey of 60 to 80 km to district Hoshiarpur remains a big problem for the common people. Especially the poor, laborers, women and the elderly have to run for government works, which wastes time, money and effort.
Sarpanch Buta Singh Alipur said, we have been making this demand for many years, but now the people are fully confident that the Aam Aadmi Party government and Deputy Speaker Raudi Sahib will resolve this issue. With the connection with Nawanshahr, dozens of problems of the area will be solved immediately.
Deputy Speaker Jai Krishna Singh Raudi, while receiving the demand letter, respected the public opinion and said, "In a democracy, public opinion is the greatest. Wherever there is convenience for the people, I always stand with the people. The demand letter given by the panchayats will be immediately placed before the government and the concerned higher authorities. Public interest is our priority."
After this strong assurance received from the Deputy Speaker, there is new hope and enthusiasm among the panchayats and the common people of the area. People are confident that their long-pending demand is now moving towards becoming a reality.
