Una/Santoshgarh, January 4: A condolence meeting was organized by the Shri Guru Ravidas Sabha Santoshgarh at the local historical temple complex. Deep sorrow was expressed at the tragic death of Pallavi, a 19-year-old student of Dharamshala Degree College, and a two-minute silence was observed in her memory, followed by prayers for the peace of her soul.
During the meeting, the office-bearers termed Pallavi's death as extremely unfortunate and demanded swift and strict action against the accused in the case. The president of the Sabha, Advocate Kulwinder Singh, and Balram Mahe said that Pallavi, a promising student belonging to the Scheduled Caste community, was forced to commit suicide after alleged ragging and harassment at the college. The loss of her life is a matter of shame for the entire country.
They alleged that Pallavi was subjected to physical and mental torture for a long time and was also harassed on the basis of her caste, which she silently endured. They said that there was a delay in registering the FIR by the police, which is an injustice to the victim's family. Pallavi's family members have made serious allegations in this case, and a video is also being considered as important evidence.
The meeting demanded that all the culprits be immediately arrested and sent to jail, and that appropriate sections under the SC/ST Act also be added to the case. The leaders of the Sabha warned that if the victim's family does not get justice soon, the Guru Ravidas Sabha Santoshgarh, along with other Dalit organizations, will resort to agitation.
During this time, senior vice-president of the Sabha, Kashmiri Lal Singha, treasurer Ashok Kumar, former presidents Balveer Singh Bablu, Rampal, Ram Kumar Bangar, Kala, Nikka, Sita Ram, Tarsem Lal, Ashu Mahe, Manish Bangar, Pankhu, Jyoti, and Mahadev, among others, paid tribute to Pallavi.
