Hoshiarpur:- Chairperson of the District Planning Committee Karamjit Kaur said that the historic "War Against Drugs" campaign launched by the Punjab Government on March 1, 2025, is completing its 300 days today. She said that this campaign is not limited to law and order only, but has become a broad people's movement to make the society drug-free.
She said that till December 23, 2025, 28,485 cases of drug trafficking have been registered in the state and 41,517 accused have been convicted. These figures reflect the strict and effective action taken by the government and the police.
The Punjab Police has seized a large quantity of drugs including heroin, opium, poppy husk, bhang, cocaine and ice drugs, along with lakhs of tablets, capsules, injections and narcotic powders. More than Rs 15 crore worth of drugs have been seized and illegal properties worth crores of rupees have been confiscated.
Karamjit Kaur said that government de-addiction centres have provided full availability of medicines, better food and accommodation, reopened libraries, inspirational Punjabi books, newspapers and sports facilities.
The Chairperson of the District Planning Committee said that Punjab has been divided into five zones: Majha, Doaba, Malwa East, Malwa West and Malwa Central. In-charges have been appointed at the assembly, block and village levels. The role of village defence committees called “protectors of villages” has been further strengthened and their number has now reached about one lakh.
She said that in the second phase, awareness programmes will be run at the block level from January 7 to January 25, in which social workers and volunteers of all political parties will work together.
The Chairperson of the District Planning Committee said that this fight is not the fight of any one person or party, but a common fight for the entire Punjab. The determination of the government and the use of modern technologies like drones show that the Punjab government is taking the eradication of drugs seriously and its positive results will be clearly visible in every corner of the state in the future.
