SAS Nagar, May 7: Mohali district conducted a crash blackout drill from 7:30 pm to 7:40 pm as part of a Civil Defense measure on Wednesday evening.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, Deepak Pareek, stated that the blackout drill followed a mock drill conducted earlier at Bestech Mall. He emphasized that the purpose of the exercise was to prepare residents for emergency response during potential air attacks or war-like situations.
Explaining the protocols, SSP Pareek said that in such scenarios, all lights, inverters, and generators should be completely turned off. Auto-on solar/CCTV lights should be disabled, and vehicles should pull over to the roadside, switching off their lights. “A crash blackout is a crucial emergency measure to reduce visibility of potential targets during air raids,” he noted.
The SSP also advised residents living in tall buildings to move to ground floors or underground shelters in the event of a air raids war-like situation. Those on the road without immediate shelter were instructed to seek cover under trees.
Additionally, SSP Pareek cautioned against spreading false information and inflammatory messages on social media. “As responsible citizens, we should refrain from forwarding unverified messages that could incite panic or disrupt social harmony,” he said, adding that the district’s cyber cell has been put on alert to monitor and curb the spread of rumors.
SSP Pareek was accompanied by SP (H) Ramandeep Singh and DSPs Prithvi Singh Chahal, NPS Lehal, Harsimran Singh Bal, along with other police personnel.
