Patiala, December 15 - FAO team and Joint Director Agriculture Dr. Arun Goyal today visited the farm of progressive farmer Gurpreet Singh Shergill of Patiala. During this, they had a special discussion about the future of agriculture in Punjab, the problems facing the farmers of Punjab in agriculture and the very serious issue of today's time, "Crop Diversification".

During this, they had a special discussion about the future of agriculture in Punjab, the problems facing the farmers of Punjab in agriculture and the very serious issue of today's time, "Crop Diversification".
While discussing this topic, Joint Director Dr. Arun Goyal mentioned the current situation of ground water level in Punjab and said that the ground water situation is very critical in some districts of Punjab, among which Sangrur and Patiala are at the forefront. And there is a great need for crop diversification in these districts.
Gurpreet Singh Shergill said that if the government wants to increase crop diversity in Punjab, then minimum price of crop diversity crops such as vegetables, fruits and flowers will have to be fixed. He said that even if the government does not buy these crops, it should ensure that the bidding for the purchase of these crops in the market will start from the fixed price. It may be mentioned here that Gurpreet Singh Shergill has been adopting crop diversification through floriculture, vermiculture and fish farming for the last 27 years, for which he has also been honored with the "National Award".
Dr. Gurmel Singh, Agricultural Development Officer of Patiala along with Dr. Vimalpreet, progressive farmers Navjot Singh and Karamjit Singh were also present on this occasion.
