Chandigarh:- Speaking on the occasion of a special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali expressed serious concern over the damage caused by floods. He said that in this hour of crisis, social service organizations and youth have done a very good job by working on the dams.
He appealed to the central government to join hands with the farmers, laborers and the poor, as there has been a huge loss to livestock, houses and farmers. Expressing disappointment over the discriminatory attitude of the center, he said that the hardworking farmers and poor people of Punjab deserve immediate help, but the central government is not ready to come out of its preconceived notions towards Punjab.
Manpreet Singh Ayali, while raising issues related to Bhakra, Pong and BBMB, said that the unconstitutional Article 79 has been demanded to be repealed. He said that the management of Bhakra and Pong dams was with BBMB but Ranjit Sagar Dam was with the Punjab government, the Punjab government has also failed to fulfill its responsibility.
Sardar Ayali demanded that a joint committee of the Vidhan Sabha be formed to look into the causes of the flood, damage and future prevention, which should submit its report within three months.
Expressing concern over the excessive flow of water in the rivers, he said that temporary check dams should be built so that this can also prevent major dangers.
Sardar Ayali in his suggestion said that today the soil level has increased in the middle part of the rivers, most of the water flows from the banks of the rivers, so the soil should be removed from the middle part of the rivers and its level should be lowered so that the flow of water can flow more in the center of the rivers.
He said that today the construction of small canals is the main need of the hour to avoid major damage. Therefore, by constructing canals from the rivers, the flow of water can be changed and the area under irrigation can be increased.
