SAS Nagar, September 23: MLA Mohali, Kulwant Singh, today announced that road infrastructure projects worth Rs 10 crore have been initiated across SAS Nagar (Mohali) constituency. A total of 13–14 key roads have been tendered, allotment letters issued, and work has already begun on a few sites, while the remaining will commence within the next week.
He said that these projects mark a significant step towards upgrading Mohali’s connectivity and infrastructure, ensuring long-term relief to commuters and residents. “Out of the identified roads, some are being widened from 10–12 feet to 18 feet, which required additional time for planning and approvals. Despite initial delays due to technical discussions and monsoon rains, now work is moving at full pace,” he added.
While briefing the media, MLA Kulwant Singh remarked that certain opposition leaders are trying to gain publicity by getting potholes filled here and there. He said that people are well aware that large-scale road construction can only be executed through proper government planning and funding, not through symbolic gestures. “Instead of misleading people with such theatrics, the opposition should acknowledge that tenders have been issued, funds have been sanctioned, and work is genuinely underway across Mohali constituency,” he added.
Highlighting the scope of work, the MLA informed that repair and strengthening clauses have been included in the contracts, making contractors accountable for any future damages. He further assured that monitoring mechanisms are in place to check quality and timely completion.
MLA Kulwant Singh informed that the major roads being taken up under this Rs 10 crore development initiative include the Landran–Kharar–Chappar Chirri Khurd road, the Kharar–Banur road, the Tangori road (worth Rs 2.5 crore), the Sheikh Majra–Kurda road, the Raipur–Andhrali road, the Tangori–Manakpur Kallar road, the Jhanjheri–Alipur road, the Bakarpur–Safeepur road, the Gige Majra–Jatana road, the Chachu Majra–Bakarpur–Jhungian road via Gurdwara Sahib, the Sector-82 to Manauli road, the Dau to Ramgarh road and Landran Road.
He further added that work on Sector-89 road and CP-67 Airport Road is already in progress, while the condition of Phase-3 road is being investigated as it has deteriorated within a short period despite being newly constructed. Responsibility of concerned contractors or officers will be fixed.
“With the completion of these projects, nearly 90 percent of Mohali constituency roads will be upgraded, benefiting thousands of daily commuters and boosting overall development,” said Kulwant Singh.
He also expressed gratitude to the people of Mohali for their patience, acknowledging the delays due to technical revisions and weather conditions.
