Kharar, May 26- The Resident Welfare Association of Old Sunny Enclave, Kharar (Extension Four), headed by its president Rajinder Singh Babbar and general secretary Ashok Kapoor, has demanded from the Municipal Council that the details of expenditure of the amount of Rs 65 lakh allocated for the development of Shakti Kunj Park be made public. In a statement, they informed that it is called a "park", but by 2023 Shakti Kunj Park looked like a complete jungle due to lack of maintenance.
General Secretary Ashok Kapoor said that in December 2021, an amount of Rs 65 lakh was sanctioned for the development of this park, and according to their information, the contract was given to Mr Chirag. Surprisingly, only 10 to 15 per cent of the work was completed, after which the contractor left the project and did not give any further information.
He said that despite repeated requests to the municipal council, the work was not completed. When their appeals went unheard, the association decided to take up the maintenance of the park on its own, which improved its condition. They repaired the boundary fencing, levelled the land with the help of JCBs and tractors, planted trees, covered the open sewerage drains with concrete slabs, repaired the footpath, laid pipelines for irrigation and gardening, and appointed a permanent gardener, all from the resources of the association.
He questioned where the amount of Rs 65 lakh sanctioned for the maintenance of the park went, why the ward councillor did not pay attention to the issue, what action was taken against the contractor, and why the officials were silent.
He also asked who was responsible for the maintenance of the sewage treatment plant (STP) attached to the park, what action has the pollution control board taken regarding the poor condition of the STP, which has made the lives of nearby residents hell, and who would be responsible for the diseases and mosquito breeding due to open sewerage. He demanded an investigation into the matter and making the expenditure details public.
