
The “War against Drugs” campaign gained momentum in Chabbewal.
Hoshiarpur- Jangliyana village, which falls under Chabbewal assembly constituency, has set a new and inspiring example. The village panchayat has unanimously passed a resolution declaring the village as a “drug free village”. This village has become the first village in Hoshiarpur district where no one sells drugs and no one consumes drugs. A big board has also been put up at the main gate of the village, which reads – “Drug free village – Welcome to Jangliyana”. Appreciating this important and bold step, MLA Dr. Ishank visited the village and congratulated the Panchayat.

He said that the work done by Jangliyana village is an inspiration for the entire region. When a Panchayat itself comes forward and opens a front against this evil, it infuses a new consciousness and positive energy in the society. Dr. Ishank said, “I heartily thank the villagers and especially the Panchayat members for this commendable step.” The village Sarpanch Manjit Kaur said that this decision is the result of the unity of the villagers and their resolve to save the future of the youth.
“We passed the resolution unanimously in the Panchayat meeting and started a public awareness campaign against drug abuse. Those who sell or consume drugs in the village have been given a strict warning. Also, those coming from outside are also being monitored. We have also received full cooperation from the police administration.” The police department also played an important role in taking this initiative forward. The village panchayat was felicitated by the administration and it was assured that every possible help will be given to keep the village drug-free.
MLA Dr. Ishank also said that if other villages also come forward in this way, then the Chabbewal area can be completely free from the evil of drug abuse. He talked about motivating the youth of the village towards sports, education and technical skills. This step of village Jangliana will definitely give a new direction to the drug-free campaign in Punjab and will become an inspirational example for other villages. On this occasion, police station in-charge Prabhjot Kaur, Tarun, Panch Binder Kaur, Jail Singh, Lehmber Singh, Anu, Gurcharan Singh, Meena Kumari and other dignitaries were present.
