Mr. Bedi said that a large number of people from Punjab have settled in Canada and have also acquired citizenship there. These Punjabis keep coming to Punjab from time to time and in the coming season when the wedding season is about to start, a large number of Punjabis living in Canada have to come to India.
He said that at present, after the bitterness in the relations between India and Canada and the Indian Government not giving visa to the Canadian citizens, such Canadian citizens and their relatives living in Punjab are quite confused as to whether they should be allowed to enter. Go to Punjab. Whether they will get visa to come or not and the government is also not providing them any information.
He said that apart from this, the students who have taken admission in Canadian colleges, whose studies are to start from January 2024 and whose fees have been deposited, are also under great stress. These students and their parents are very confused and worried about what will happen to them and they are going into depression.
Mr. Bedi said that at present the Punjab Government needs to immediately establish contact with the Government of Canada and the Foreign Minister of India should also be informed about these concerns. Apart from keeping the students and their parents updated, an NRI helpline should be started at the district level for Punjabi citizens living in Canada and the latest status information should be made available to them continuously.
