CM's Yogashala yoga classes become a ray of hope in drug de-addiction center

SAS Nagar 2nd May 2025: Under the initiative of the Punjab Government, CM's Yogashala, yoga classes being run in drug de-addiction centers have brought positive changes in the lives of many patients. Pranayama, yoga nidra and various asanas performed daily by yoga instructors have not only made the process of drug de-addiction easier but have also made the patients more energetic mentally and physically.

SAS Nagar 2nd May 2025: Under the initiative of the Punjab Government, CM's Yogashala, yoga classes being run in drug de-addiction centers have brought positive changes in the lives of many patients. Pranayama, yoga nidra and various asanas performed daily by yoga instructors have not only made the process of drug de-addiction easier but have also made the patients more energetic mentally and physically.
Sharing his experiences, a patient, who has been at the drug rehabilitation centre in Sector 66, Mohali for the past two months, said - "Earlier I used to not get sleep and my mind used to be restless. But since I started attending yoga classes, especially doing yoga nidra and anulom-vilom, I have started getting deep sleep and my mind is becoming calm."
Another patient, says - "Initially, my body felt weak, but now by doing yoga, my body gets a new energy. Earlier, I used to feel tired all day, now I feel like doing something good."
Yoga instructor Pulkit Taneja says that in the process of quitting drugs, the body and mind go through various symptoms such as irritability, insomnia, weakness, fatigue and anxiety.
“At such times, pranayama such as Anulom-Vilom, Bhramari and Nadi Shuddhi balance the respiratory system, which calms the mind. On the other hand, yoga nidra provides deep relaxation and speeds up the body’s regeneration process.”
He also said that regular practice of subtle exercises and postures such as Tad Asana, Pavanamukta Asana, Vajra Asana and Shava Asana brings flexibility and vitality to the body, strengthens the joints, removes stiffness and stiffness from the body and the patient feels more active and positive than before.
Pratima Dawar, Yoga Coordinator, District Mohali, said that the aim of the CM’s Yogashala is to take yoga to the people and present it as a holistic healing system that strengthens and fortifies physical, mental and emotional health.
He said that this initiative is becoming an example in drug rehabilitation centers, where yoga is working like a medicine, which aims to awaken the body and soul, that too without any side effects.
