
Increasing cases of live-in relationships are worrisome for the society: Raj Lali Gill
Patiala, February 28- Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill said in Patiala today that increasing cases of live-in relationships are worrisome for our society. Speaking at the Lok Adalat organised at the Police Line to hear the problems of women and provide them justice, Raj Lali Gill said that boys and girls and even many married men and women are being pushed towards this evil of live-in relationships which is eating our society like a worm, which needs to be avoided.
Patiala, February 28- Punjab State Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill said in Patiala today that increasing cases of live-in relationships are worrisome for our society. Speaking at the Lok Adalat organised at the Police Line to hear the problems of women and provide them justice, Raj Lali Gill said that boys and girls and even many married men and women are being pushed towards this evil of live-in relationships which is eating our society like a worm, which needs to be avoided.
He said that he is writing a letter to the state government to amend the law in this matter. He heard about 35 cases during this Lok Adalat and directed the police investigating officers to re-investigate most of the cases. Apart from this, he also heard some new cases. He said that the Punjab State Women Commission believes that any aggrieved woman should be heard thoroughly and she should be provided rational justice in a timely manner.
Talking informally to the media after the Lok Adalat, Raj Lali Gill said that the Women Commission is very strict in the matter of using abusive language against women, so any common or special person should refrain from using any kind of abusive language against women.
Responding to a question about political pressure on the Commission, he said that the Commission does not allow anyone to be pushed and is fulfilling the goal of providing justice to the victims in a transparent manner by playing the role of mediation in all cases without any political or other pressure.
Chairperson Lali Gill said that since she took charge in March 2024, about 2500 cases have come up for hearing so far, out of which 70 percent have been settled. She said that today cases related to marriage, property, NRI marriage, dowry, exploitation of girls and women, live-in relationships, domestic violence etc. were brought to her notice.
Along with the Chairperson, Deputy Director of the Commission Nikhil Arora and PA Mohan Kumar, SP Local Harbant Kaur, District Revenue Officer Navdeep Singh, DSP Manoj Gorasi, SI Gurjeet Kaur, Sakhi One Stop Incharge Rajmeet Kaur were also present in the Lok Adalat.
