In Haroli, which has been flourishing due to the continuous efforts of Haroli MLA and Deputy Chief Minister Shri Mukesh Agnihotri for years, irrigation schemes have been taken forward with more vigour and speed in the last one year.

Actually, Haroli area, which tells the unique story of big changes in irrigation facilities drop by drop, has become a stronghold of cash crops. Once vegetable production was just a dream for the farmers here, now it is flourishing rapidly. Farmers are doing well due to good demand in the market and good prices. Especially in Beet area, there was a serious water crisis once. Now there is a continuous supply of drinking water as well as adequate irrigation facility for the fields. Now cash crops and vegetables are being produced on a large scale in the area.
Due to the farsightedness and decisive efforts of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Mukesh Agnihotri, who is also handling the responsibility of Jal Shakti Department, several irrigation schemes in Haroli Vidhansabha area have positively impacted the lives of thousands of people. His efforts have completely changed the agricultural scenario of Haroli. Haroli area, which once suffered from water shortage and had limited agricultural potential, is now touching new heights due to the development of irrigation facilities. Better irrigation facilities have given farmers the opportunity to adopt crop diversification and increase their income.

Executive Engineer of Jal Shakti Department Haroli, Puneet Sharma, says that as per the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Mukesh Agnihotri, 13 tubewell projects were completed in Haroli Vidhansabha area in the last one year at a cost of Rs 9.71 crore. Through these projects, 347.50 hectares (9049 Kanal) of land has been provided with irrigation facilities. At present, the construction of 33 irrigation tubewells is in progress at a cost of Rs 32.35 crore. On completion of these projects, 871 hectares (22682 Kanal) of land will get irrigation facilities. He says that Rs 12.83 crore is being spent for the development of the command area. Under this initiative, work is being done on 17 irrigation schemes, which will provide complete irrigation facilities to 850 hectares of land.
At the same time, DPR has been prepared for 6 new irrigation schemes with an estimated cost of Rs 202.54 crore. Out of these, 3 schemes have been sent for approval under the Prime Minister Agricultural Irrigation Scheme and 3 under NABARD. Work on these will start as soon as approval is received. Apart from this, work is being done on 4 projects worth 28 crores with the help of ADB. These include schemes of Pubowal, Baliwal, Haroli and Naganoli. At the same time, decisive steps have been taken towards the construction of Beet Kshetra Irrigation Scheme-2 worth Rs 74 crore.

Dr. Kulbhushan Dhiman, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department, Una, says that better irrigation facilities in Haroli area have made farming a profitable deal for the people. Apart from traditional farming, people here are growing cash crops like cucumber, pumpkin-gourd, cabbage, peas, potatoes, bitter gourd, meter beans and sugarcane. Large scale production of cash crops and vegetables year after year has opened a new door of self-reliance and economic prosperity for the farmers.
