Disclosing this here today, Acting Civil Surgeon Dr. Renu Singh and district Epidemiologist Dr Subhash Kumar said that the health workers have surveyed as many as 1,34,677 houses and other places in the district since March. Mosquito larvae have been found in as many as 2059 houses and other places and 562 challans have been issued to the violators by the M.C. and others have been given strict warnings.
According to the civil surgeon, teams of health workers inspected a total of 4,33, 379 containers such as coolers, fridge trays, pots, empty tires, boxes and other containers during this period and larvae were found in 2378 containers. The health department is paying special attention to the high risk areas. Apart from going to schools, the teams are also raising awareness through IEC activities at other places.
Health officials added that the larvae of the mosquito that spreads dengue fever can turn into a dangerous mosquito in a few days which can even kill a person. Generally people think that due to cold weather these days, dengue mosquitoes do not spread whereas even these days there is a danger of breeding of dengue spreading mosquitoes. They asked people to be fully alert and vigilant against dengue and not to leave clean or dirty water anywhere in and around their homes. The Civil Surgeon said that there is no definite season for dengue fever but usually it is more prevalent from July to November. Dengue testing and treatment is available free of cost in government hospitals across the district. For health related information, the health department helpline no. 104 may be contacted any time.
