Punjab Govt to further enhance facilities at Regional Spinal Injuries Centre Mohali: Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur

SAS Nagar, March 13, 2025: Dr. Baljit Kaur, Social Security, Women & Child Development Minister, Punjab has said that as per the commitment of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the State Government will further enhance the Regional Spinal Injuries Centre, Sector 70, Mohali by equipping it with more facilities.

SAS Nagar, March 13, 2025: Dr. Baljit Kaur, Social Security, Women & Child Development Minister, Punjab has said that as per the commitment of Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the State Government will further enhance the Regional Spinal Injuries Centre, Sector 70, Mohali by equipping it with more facilities.
While visiting the institute aided by the Department of Social Security, Women & Child Development, Punjab with a financial grant of Rs. 2 crore per annum today, she said that the institute specializing in the treatment of spinal cord injuries serves patients from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh with the expertise and services of renowned spinal surgeon and Project Director Dr. Raj Bahadur.
She said that around 50 surgeries are performed in a month in spinal cord injuries and urology problems and 100 patients have an OPD visit daily. Dr Baljit Kaur said that the purpose of today's visit was to explore the possibility of further improvement here by interacting with Dr Raj Bahadur, other doctors and staff and patients undergoing treatment here.
She said that apart from Dr Raj Bahadur, Dr Vidur Bhalla, former Head of Urology Department, Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32 is also serving here these days. As per the demand of Dr Raj Bahadur, the Cabinet Minister assured to release Rs 3 crore immediately to start construction of second floor to add more bed capacity in the centre.
Accepting another request of Project Director Dr Raj, the Cabinet Minister said that enhancement in the existing annual financial assistance of Rs 2 crore is under consideration of the State Government. While visiting the Spinal Injury Centre, Dr Baljit Kaur inspected the ICU and High Dependency Unit of the centre besides X-Ray and MRI rooms.
She said that the centre is functioning very well under the leadership of Dr Raj Bahadur and the charges for surgery here are very nominal as compared to private health facilities. He appreciated Dr Raj Bahadur and his team for their hard work and care towards the patients coming here from northern region. He also interacted with the patients and took their feedback.
Center's Deputy Director (Technical Facilities) Madhu Puri, Social Security Department Deputy Director Amarjit Singh Bhullar, DSP Ajit Pal Singh, Tehsildar Gurwinder Kaur, District Social Security Officer Amrit Bala were present on the occasion.
