Challenges to Communal Unity
January 26 is auspicious day for every Indian. We remember the fateful day of January 26, 1950, on which our country's own constitution came into effect. On this day, every Indian pays homage to the framer of the constitution, Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar Ji. Like every year, this time too, Republic Day was being celebrated with full enthusiasm across the country. But the unfortunate incident that took place in Amritsar on this day shook every sensitive person.
An attempt was made to damage the statue of Baba Saheb installed in Heritage Street, a vibrant area of the city, by a lone youth. After this incident, there is a wave of protest in the whole country, especially in Punjab. This incident is being condemned from all sides. Leaders of all political parties are condemning this heinous act and are demanding the strictest punishment for the guilty person.
Without a doubt, this is an unforgivable act, which has deeply hurt the heart of every citizen. But there is a need to go deeper into this incident. There is a well-thought-out conspiracy behind it, in which no one person's mind is involved. After this incident, the family of that person Akashdeep Singh also came to light. It can be easily guessed from their economic condition that how mischievous forces can use the youth of a poor family for their dangerous plans.
The media is repeatedly insisting that Akashdeep belongs to the Scheduled Caste. But I want to say that mischievous and selfish people have no caste or religion, their only aim is to create divisions or spread chaos in the society. To stop such incidents, the governments should deeply investigate these tricks and reach the 'mastermind' of the conspiracy.
Punjab has always been a state that gives a message of universal brotherhood. Brotherhood is part of the generous nature of Punjabis. But from time to time, due to the tricks of governments and communal forces, Punjab has suffered the most. Be it the partition of the country in 1947 or the dark era of the 80s, Punjab has seen the height of destruction. No one can deny that poverty itself is a curse. The poor and needy person can be easily deceived and misled. In Punjab and other states of the country, religious conversions, attraction to deras or involvement of poor people in illegal activities reinforce this fact.
The religious harmony of Punjab has always emerged as an example. Caste discrimination has completely ended here. Numerous examples of respect for other religions are seen every day. All our festivals are respected and common to all religions. Recently, Sikhs and Hindus raised money to build a mosque for the Muslim residents of the village in Khanan Khurd in Muktsar district.
Similarly, last year, a Sikh family from Bakhtgarh village in Barnala district donated land to build a mosque. There are countless such examples that serve as an example of communal harmony among Punjabis. The tricks of mischievous elements succeed when the common people get agitated and join in the activities of 'bandh', 'chakka jam' or 'bhan tod'.
This time, the holy land of Sri Amritsar has been chosen for nefarious purposes in a deliberate move so that the slum-dwelling Punjab can be set on fire. So we need to be alert against such elements.
