Youth Power to Raise Its Voice Against Chitta in Una

Una, August 31: An 'Anti-Chitta Walkathon' will be organized in Una on September 7 with the aim of raising awareness among the youth about the harmful effects of 'Chitta' (synthetic drugs) and other intoxicants, and to spread the message of a drug-free society on a large scale. Students from schools and colleges across the district will participate prominently in this walkathon, which will be led by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The district administration has focused on ensuring the safe and organized participation of students while shaping the event into an effective public awareness campaign.
While reviewing preparations for the walkathon on Monday, Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal directed the concerned officials to formulate a well-organized plan for the students' transportation. He instructed them to coordinate with educational institutions to make necessary arrangements for bringing students to the venue, ensuring their participation, and facilitating their safe return after the event. He emphasized prioritizing the convenience and safety of the students during the event.
Students from classes 9 to 12 of government and private schools, as well as college students, are being engaged as the primary target group for the walkathon. The objective is to sensitize the youth to the adverse effects of 'Chitta' and other drugs and to involve them in efforts to raise public awareness against substance abuse.
According to the scheduled program, the Chief Minister will flag off the Anti-Chitta Walkathon from the Indira Gandhi Sports Stadium, Una, at approximately 10:00 AM on September 7 and will also participate in it himself. As per the proposed route, the walkathon will commence at the Indira Gandhi Sports Stadium, take a U-turn near the bus stand, and conclude back at the stadium. On this occasion, the Chief Minister will administer an 'Anti-Chitta Pledge' to the youth and the gathering, urging them to stay away from drugs and commit to building a drug-free society; he will also interact with the youth. The Deputy Commissioner conducted a detailed, point-by-point review of arrangements at the event venue and along the proposed route, covering aspects such as participant entry and exit, assembly points, traffic and parking, drinking water, sanitation, toilet facilities, healthcare services, and security measures. He directed all concerned departments to complete preparations in a timely manner through mutual coordination and to ensure that necessary facilities are provided to participants during the event. Instructions were also issued to the Police Department to ensure appropriate arrangements regarding traffic, parking, and law and order.
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the participation of youth could play a pivotal role in broadening public awareness against drug abuse. Through the 'Anti-Chitta Walkathon,' efforts are being made to sensitize the youth to the adverse effects of drugs and to further strengthen collective awareness within society against substance abuse. He directed all relevant departments to work in a coordinated manner to ensure the effective execution of the event.
